Beach Themed Candy Bag

Summer is here and the heat is on! Get ready for all those vacations and beach parties with this beach themed candy bag topper.

The vibes are ocean fun and are the perfect project for the CutCardStock papers this month.

Start with a 6″ strip of Stardream Metallic Aquamarine, Basis Light Blue and DCS Natural Twine cardstock. These can be varying widths, depending on what size you will need the waves. To cut the waves, use a stitched edger die cut in varying heights. I used the edger on the blue pieces and ripped the edge of the twine paper for a rougher look.

Cut a sand dollar shape from an electric cutting machine in Classic Crest Solar White. I did several so I could make a few bags for an upcoming craft retreat. I also used the edges of the sand dollars for a separate shaker card. It’s a win-win when you can make several projects at one time!

Dust the edges of the twine paper and the sand dollar in a brown ink. Then add dimension with both a black and white gel pen, adding dots randomly to look like sand. Add some Stickles glitter glue to the bottom edge.

Stamp a sentiment, if desired, on the sanddollar on a curve. I also added some Stickles glitter glue to the holes on the sand dollar for some extra shine.

Now cut some block letters in Classic Crest Solar White with some die cuts. I spelled the word FUN but you can write whatever works for your project. Sponge brown ink on the bottoms and a light blue at the top.

Adhere the three strips together, starting with the Stardream Aquamarine, then the Basis Light Blue and finally the Twine. Attach the sand dollar to the left corner with a couple foam pop dots. Then, set the block letters off to the right so the bag topper reads “Summer Fun.”

Finally, fold over another strip of 6″ by 5″ Stardream Metallic Aquamarine like a long tent. Staple this to the top of a candy bag. I used gummy sharks for some added whimsy! Then glue the sand dollar panel over it.

Your treat bags are ready to give out! Take this idea with you on a beach vacation or other summer treat. This would also be a good snack for a shark week watch party!

I invite you to check out the CutCardStock website for the summer colors this month. The ocean blues are my absolute favorite right now. And, enjoy your summer celebrations – see you next time!
