Patriotic Birthday Card

Hi, Toni with you today. Memorial Day is coming up here in the U.S., so my thoughts turned to the military and veterans. I have a few people in my family who had been in the military so I created this with my brother’s birthday in mind. Of course, you could change up the colors and use it any time.

The background

To create the base layer, I used Basis Blue Discount cardstock which I had diecut with a starry backdrop. This really popped against the Cougar White A2 Folded cardstock base. I wanted a bit more visual interest so sponged the blue with Catherine Pooler ink for an ombre effect.

As you can see below, the Basis Blue Discount cardstock has a very fine texture which is perfect for grabbing onto ink. I had no problems with making a smooth color transition.

The Flag

I used a set of Mama Elephant banners with Pop Tone Wild Cherry and Cougar White cardstocks, alternating the colors to create stripes on a flag. I used two layers per stripe so they stand out from the red base layer of the flag.

Since the banners don’t come with a flag pole, I cut a thin strip of DCS Smooth Sand Castle Tan cardstock to create one. I adhered it to the side of the flag then adhered the lot to the card base.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great rest of your day! For a full list of products used on this project, visit my blog.
