Summer Celebration Card

I don’t know about you, but one of my greatest pleasures is sitting on my patio in the evening and enjoying the peace and quiet after a busy day. Sometimes our neighbors come over and then it turns into a party! Mary here, and this is the inspiration behind the card I am sharing with you today.

Who doesn’t love a cool beverage on a Summer evening? My card features products from Spellbinders, Lawn Fawn and of course the perfect card stock from CutCardStock.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

~Lawn Fawn Build-a-Drink Dies, Cocktail Add-on Dies, and Scripty Enjoy die

~Spellbinders Grand Tropical Flamingos die set

~Card stock: Cougar Smooth White 80#, Blue Hydrangea 80#, Rubber Ducky 80#, Galax 80#, Amaranth 80#

~ Vellum

~A2 card base

~Ranger Distress Oxide Ink in Prize Ribbon, Peacock Feathers, and Squeezed Lemonade

~Adhesive and foam tape

Step 2: Ink the Background

I cut a piece of 80# Cougar Smooth card stock to 4 x 5-1/4″. I began by blending Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide onto the bottom portion of my panel using a domed, foam applicator. Then, I added Peacock Feathers and lastly, Prize Ribbon. I repeated this process to get a smooth blend. I really like how nice the ink glides on Cougar card stock!

Step 3: Die Cutting and Inking

I die cut the word “enjoy” from Rubber Ducky card stock and then two times from Cougar card stock. These were carefully adhered together using liquid glue. I also die cut the glass and the flowers from Cougar. The “drink”part of the glass was ink blended with Squeezed Lemonade Oxide and then Concord and 9th’s Creamsickle ink. I also die cut the glass out of vellum to give it a more realistic look.

I blended a tiny bit of Creamsickle ink into the centers of the flowers. Amaranth card stock is so rich and vibrant, I just had to use it for the cute little umbrella. The leaves were cut from Blue Hydrangea and inked with Concord and 9ths Eucalyptus, Grasshopper, and Rainforest inks. The palm leaf was cut from Galax card stock. For the lemons, I cut the backer piece from Rubber Ducky and the inside of the lemon from some leftover Squeezed lemonade inked card stock. I also added a bit of Creamsicle to the lemons as well. My goal was to make sure all of the die cut elements worked well together.

Step 4: Assembly

Now it’s time to assemble the card. I like to play around a bit with all of my die cuts until I like a composition. Once I have it figured out, I usually take a quick picture with my phone to reference as I am adhering the parts. I started by adhering the palm leaf to the background. Then I added the glass and the leaves. I added some foam tape to the back of the glass and the umbrella. To add some interest to the large leaves, I gently curved them forward off of the background. I adhered the lemons and the flowers around the glass, adding foam tape and making sure to curl the petals a bit for dimension. Lastly, I adhered the sentiment to the top portion of the card. I love how the yellow sentiment stands out against the blue background.

The last step is to adhere the whole thing to an A2 card base. I like the small frame the card base gives to the finished card.

And that’s it. I really love the fun, tropical vibe this card is giving.
