Luck of the Irish Card

It is almost Saint Patrick’s Day and I am here for it! I have several friends with birthdays in March, so I am always looking for cute ideas for their birthday cards. This year, I thought it would be fun to incorporate a mug and some lucky clovers.
Card Recipe:
To start, I cut a piece of Bonsai card stock to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ for the background layer. I wanted my card to have a Celtic look, so I placed the card stock in an older embossing folder (Cuttlebug Paper Lace), and ran it through my die cutting machine to emboss it. Dry embossing the background gave it a nice texture.
Die Cutting, Inking, and Embossing:
Using Dare2BArtzy Rectangle Framelit dies, I die cut a panel out of 80# Cougar Smooth Cover . I die cut the mug from Kat Scrappines out of Cougar 80# and Rubber Ducky Yellow card stock. I inked the edges of the mug with Salvaged Patina Distress ink and the beer foam with Old Paper Distress ink. To add more texture to the foam on the mug, I used an embossing pen and sprinkled Brutus Monroe Marshmallow Puff embossing powder on it. I used my heat tool to melt the powder. When this powder melts, it puffs up. It is so fun to watch!

For the shamrocks, I used Lawn Fawn’s Lucky Clovers die set. I die cut them out of the same Bonsai card stock I used for the background panel. That green card stock is such a pretty shade of green and it is perfect for the shamrocks! I lightly inked around the edges of the shamrocks with Picket Fence Distress ink.
Assembling the Card:
Next, it was time to assemble the card. I adhered the green, background panel with liquid adhesive, to a top folding, A2 card that I made out of Cougar 110# card stock. Adhesive was added to the white panel, and then centered it on top of the green panel. I assembled the mug and decided where I wanted to place it on the card – but I did not adhere it down. With the mug in place, I carefully stamped the sentiment from Newton’s Lucky Clover from Newton’s Nook Designs in Concord and 9th’s Clover ink. Then, adhered the mug and arranged and adhered the shamrocks.

This card came together quickly and I love all of the texture! How do you add texture to your cards? I’d love to know. Thanks so much for stopping by!
