I decided to take a class, and I am so happy I did. I went with Shimelle’s new class, Half and Half. Layering has not been my stong point, but this made it so much easier. I paired some Basis Cardstock with the beautiful Bloom Street collection, and I love the results!

I started with pulling all my papers – Cougar White Cardstock, Basis Light Teal Cardstock, Basis Pink Cardstock, and the Pop-Tone Gumdrop. From Bloom Street, chose two patterns and the cut apart sheet to use in my layers. I paired these with the cutest picture of my niece sitting outside, just watching all the things.
Using the Cougar White as my base, I adhered 2 6×12 sheets of patterned paper. Using some Catherine Pooler to ink my edges and some matching washi tape, I pulled the two pages together. I do love how the Aquatini ink matched these paper and pulls everything together.
Half and Half: Layering the Layout
Starting with my photo and the 3 color cardstock, I started my layers, using bigger pieces as my base. I also cut some smaller pieces to fit in along the way. Using the cut apart sheet and the ephemera pack, I pulled out pieces that can be layered everywhere. Popping them in, moving them around, cutting some, and putting them in different places. I pulled in some phrase and word pieces as well. Just kept going till I looked and said I love it.
Once I was happy with all the layers, I inked all the edges using the same Catherine Pooler ink. Added a doily to soften the edges, used some pop dots to lift a few up a little. Added my title, now for some embellishments, SpiegelMom Scraps sequins, flair, and Nuvo to finish it off.
This was super fun to learn how to layer. I will definitely be layering more often. I really like the pop of color that the basis cardstock gave to this layout, breaking up some of the busy patterns.
Did you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it? I would love to see your take on layers or anything you found yourself inspired by. Please share below your projects; I would love to see them!
Happy Scrapping!
