Mom of the Year Award Pin

I might be biased, but my mom certainly deserves a Mom of the Year award. I bet you feel the same way about special women in your life, too, no doubt! This lovely craft is a great way to show a special woman what a great mom she is in your life. It’s something Mom can wear on her special day, or it can decorate a gift bag or wine bottle instead.

I started with a scalloped die cut using the Mirrisparkle Pink Glitter. I run this paper through my die-cut machine with an added shim of paper because of its thickness.

Once cut, I mounted it on a small doily, then punched 2 small holes in the back for a safety pin. Set aside another doily to cover the open ends later on.

Next up is a rosette medallion. The patterned papers I’m using are from the We R Memory Keepers Hello Darling pad. I cut 4 strips of the green striped paper with a 1.75” width, scored, and accordion folded the strips.

Then I glued the ends together, holding them with clothespins. Once dry, fold it in and glue it to a circle cut from the striped paper. Set aside and let this dry.

Now, select another coordinating pattern for the tails. I chose a floral along with the stripe. I cut 2 strips of it along with 2 strips of Mirrisparkle Pink Glitter. These are 1.25 inches wide.

The additional striped pieces are .5 inches wide. Leave extra length at first until you decide how long you want the tails to be.

The final cuts are this oval die cut (from Queen and Co.) that spells out ‘Mom’ in Stardream Metallic White Pluto and an oval back in Mirrisparkle Pink Glitter. Glue together and get ready for assembly!

Taking the strips of paper, I stapled them to a teal ruffle ribbon, making sure to layer left over right. Trim to the length you like after, as desired. From here, I stapled the strips to the back of my rosette.

For a finished look, glue down the additional doily on the back to cover the stapled ends. Attach the striped medallion to the rosette with sturdy glue, and finally, the Mom diecut on top.

Embellishments are the fun part – like sprinkles on a sundae! I chose from an assortment of paper flower embellishments at home in pink and white and attached them with glue.
