Wedding Welcome Sign with Paper Flowers

A friends wedding is coming up, and the venue has this great ivy wall out front. We wanted to incorporate that into something unique along with hydrangeas and roses, so I went to work creating this boxwood welcome sign. 

I love using basis paper for making flowers, and it just happens to be on sale through the end of May. I use the Basis White 80lb Cardstock – it’s light enough that it curls and folds easily, but durable enough that it holds up for a long time. It also has a slight texture to it that adds a little more dimension to paper flowers. 

In addition to the paper, I purchased the faux boxwood panels from Amazon and custom wood letters from Etsy. 

I used my Cricut Explore Air to cut out all of the flower components and used a variety of templates from Etsy and LiaGriffith.com. Then I used my quilling tools to curl and fold each of the pieces appropriately. 

Flower Templates: 

After I put all of the flowers together, I laid out the faux boxwood and attached all of the pieces. Some of the flower templates use floral wire, so I just wrapped the ends around the grid backing on the boxwood. For the ones that don’t have a ‘stem’ I hot glued some clear bead stringing wire to the backs of them and tied them on. I also use the bead stringing wire for the wooden letters. 

Once I got everything attached where I wanted it, I used my staple gun to attach the boxwood to some plywood, so it had a sturdy backing to stand up.
