Sympathy cards are some of the most difficult cards to create and send. When creating them, I usually go for soft, muted colors. Keeping them simple seems best. This week I created several sympathy cards to have on hand. The Curious Metallic Card Stock in either Gold Ice or Silver Ice worked great with the texture paste and glitter used on these cards. It created an elegant, subtle background.
I taped a stencil to the front of the card base using Yellow Frog Tape. Even though this is a low adhesive tape, I like to make sure it doesn’t stick to my projects by first putting it on whatever I’m wearing. Today it was blue jeans. Doing this helps prevent paper tears when removing the tape from my project.
I added texture pastein a transparent gloss finish. I planned to add glitter to it, so it didn’t really matter what type of texture paste I put down. This one goes on smooth and is really thin.
After carefully removing the stencil, I sprinkled Elizabeth Crafts Cool Diamond Glitter over the texture paste. I took the spatula and stencil to the bathroom sink to wash it. You have some time for clean-up but you want to get that stuff off. Otherwise it makes the stencil and tools unusable. After the clean-up, I tapped off the excess glitter onto a sheet of paper so I could funnel the leftovers back into the jar.
Here’s a close-up of the stenciled flourish with glitter. I left this to dry overnight.
To finish the card, I added a sentiment by die-cutting the word “Prayers” from Curious Metallic in Lime. I also cut two more “Prayers” out of the Curious Metallic Ice Gold. I layered those behind the lime one. I offset them slightly so just a little bit of the Ice Gold peaks out. I stamped the rest of the sentiment “You’re in my” on a narrow piece of Curious Metallic Ice Gold Card Stock and heat embossed with gold powder. The gold embossing powder picks up the subtle gold shimmer of the card base.
In the finished card below, you can see I only used a portion of the stencil. I created a square on the card with the frog tape. I love the shimmery background of the Ice Gold card stock along with the glitter.
Below is another card I created with texture paste and a different stencil. For this card, I stamped and die-cut flowers and leaves to accompany the sentiment.
