A Tea Rose Tag For Gifting Flowers

Have you ever tried quilling before? It’s one of my favorite paper crafting techniques. Some designs can be a little time consuming, but quilled roses are pretty quick. You can whip up a bunch in no time to decorate your projects 🙂

Today I’m going to show you how to make this cute tag that you can use to gift a potted plant to a loved one, just in time for spring!

To start, gather up your materials and cut all your pieces. You will need:

• Curious Metallic Cardstock in Cognac
• Curious Metallic Cardstock in Botanic
• Curious Metallic Cardstock in Cryogen White
• Pop Tone Cardstock in Sno Cone (65#)
• Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Blush
• Distress Ink in Spun Sugar
• Memory Box Basket Die (or a flower pot die!)
• Your favorite Tag Die
• Poppy Stamps Freida Leaf Die
• Die Cutting Machine, like a Big Shot
• Your favorite stamp set (I used Fresh Flowers by Clearly Besotted for my sentiment)
• Paintbrush
• Slotted quilling tool
• Glue Dots
• Foam Adhesive

Cut one tag from the Cognac cardstock, one tag from the Cryogen White cardstock, two leaves from the Botanic cardstock, and cut your basket or pot from the Cognac paper as well. Trim five 0.25” x 8.5″ strips from the Sno Cone cardstock. Snip them all in half and set them aside – we will use these to make the roses like the little one next to the basket below.

To make the roses, insert one end of a strip into the slot. Turn the tool about three times, then fold the tail of the paper down at a 90-degree angle, so it is in line with the handle. Continue to roll, and the strip will flare a little and end up where it began. Fold it down again and repeat until you reach the end of the strip, then glue to secure.

You’ll need about ten of these (or more if you like lots of roses). I know the directions can be a little hard to follow – but fear not! I have a short clip on Instagram that shows exactly how to make these roses. I will link it at the bottom of this post so you can check it out. 😃

I used the Sno Cone cardstock because I wanted to have the flowers look “painted.” You can get the look by spritzing your flowers with an ink spray – I did mine with Blush Color Shine so they would match with the lovely metallic finish of the Curious Metallic cardstock sheets I chose.

OK, the hard part is done! Ha! Get out your Spun Sugar Distress Ink and smoosh it onto an acrylic block or craft sheet. Spritz with water and pick up the watered down ink with your paintbrush. Gently tap the brush over the Cryogen White tag, so it makes little pink droplets. 

It will take no to time to dry since it’s ink. Once the tag is ready, adhere your basket with foam squares. Tuck in some leaves and secure them with a few dots of white glue. Snip more as needed to give the basket a full look. The roses are dry now too, so you can go ahead and arrange them as well.

Make sure to pull some of the leaves forward and tuck some behind to add a little depth to the flowers.

Don’t ya just love all that sparkle?! To finish up your tag, stamp your sentiment in the top left corner in black ink. Tie a tiny bow and adhere it to the front of the basket with a Glue Dot, then punch a hole and thread through some cute twine or ribbon. All done!
