Easy DIY Valentine Card

Hello and Happy Monday. Misty (@Mommyofkidz) here with you today! Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!? It seems like Christmas was only yesterday! However, it is February…the month of love. Therefore, I will be sharing a quick and Easy DIY Valentine card.

For this card, I gathered the materials pretty quickly. Stardream Metallic ONYX , DCS White GLITTER Heavyweight 12×12  and a POP-TONE 5×7 Gate fold card base were all I needed. No Easy DIY Valentine Card should require a lot of materials! To begin, I cut 1 inch strips from the black and white glitter cardstock using my paper trimmer. Next, those were cut into 1 inch squares. I cut a 3×7 piece of Stardream Metallic CRYSTAL on which to mount the squares.

Assembly

I wanted to create a checkered look, therefore, I alternated the black and white squares as I mounted them. For added dimension, the white squares were mounted with a 1/4 inch piece of foam tape, while the black squares got the faux stitched treatment. As I was doing this I saw a white heart laying on my desk. It was left over from a previous project, but would go perfectly with this one! So, I grabbed it and added some hand stitching and lettering to the edges of that also. Coincidentally, it was also cut out of Stardream Metallic CRYSTAL.

Adding “Eye Candy”

I wanted the heart to stand out against the black and white checkered background. By using a white brick background on the opposing side, it created the perfect contrast for the heart. However, It still needed more visual appeal. SO, I added a few roses in various sizes and colors along with some acrylic embellishments, and the transformation began. With a few more florals and some vintage lace tucked under the edge, the heart now stood out splendidly against its background. SUPER simple and easy! Now all that was left to do was to add a sentiment on the inside.
