Halloween Mouse Mini Banner

I just booked a girls trip to Disneyland for Halloween, and I am soooo excited! Hi everyone, it’s Maureen with you today. I want to share my excitement with you by showing you how I created a DIY character craft to celebrate! I’ve used simple supplies you might already have at home. This banner will look cute on a bulletin board, a display cabinet or across a decor display in your home.

This banner displays some of the fun costumes that Mickey Mouse might wear for Halloween. It starts with a few simple die cuts and is done with none other than the amazing CutCardStock colors! I could also see these characters working on some cute cards or tags if you prefer.

Start by cutting three mouse die cut shapes as your base shapes. Now, I realize this may not be a shape you have in your stash, but don’t worry! Two small circles and a larger circle are all you need. I’ve cut these with the Lessebo Pitch Black, Pop Tone Orange Fizz and Pop Tone Limeade Green.

Our first character is a Mickey dracula. I like to use extra pieces from die cuts, or create shapes using other shapes, to stretch my die cut stash. This one is created by cutting another Lessebo Pitch Black mouse shape, then cutting it in half. Take a small oval shape and create a negative arch on both sides to resemble the eyes.

Then, cut small teeth with a fine scissors or use the inside cuts like I did from this ornament die. These teeth are made with remnants of Stardream Metallic Pluto. Assemble and glue.

I also added a small cape in the back. Trim a square piece of Pop Tone Grape Jelly down to a triangle and curl up the corners. Then use foam adhesive to attach.

Next up we have Frankenstein. Take another Lessebo Pitch Black mouse shape and cut it two-thirds of the way up with a shearing scissors, and attach.

Then, take a small strip of gray like the Lessebo Granite Gray, and trim to form small “T’s” for the bolts. Adhere these to both sides of the Pop Tone Limeade Green mouse shape. Don’t forget to draw on the stitch marks!

Finally, we have the pirate mouse. This one is created making eyeball shaped cuts with a die cut circle. Lay your die cut over an initial circle cut a 2nd time to create unique shaped slices.

Cut a small circle to form the knot, then assemble these pieces at the top of the mouse shape to make a handkerchief. This is done with Stardream Metallic Jupiter.

To add an earring, cut another small circle in DCS Gold Glitter and punch a hole in it. Slit the circle in one spot and adhere it under the ear. Ahoy!

Now it’s time to create the banner. For the ease of this project, I went ahead and used a simple flag die cut nesting set. However, you can trim what you need on a paper trimmer too.

I’ve used Lessebo Pitch Black and Pop Tone Grapesicle. Take a scallop scissors to the edges of the black banners to add some interest, if you wish. Then adhere the two flags together.

On the back of the banner, I’ve added a reinforcement for ribbon or twine. This allows you to string the banners without punching holes on the banner. I’ve trimmed strips of Lessebo Pitch Black at 3″ by 1″ in length. Then, score the ends at a 1/2″ and punch holes on both ends. Attach to the back of the panels and string your twine.

Additionally, add some cute pom pom ribbon to the tops of the panels. Now I have a cute mini banner to decorate my craft room office! I love to put mine across a bulletin board that faces my Zoom screen for any fun virtual meetings I attend.

To sum up, I’m ready for Halloween – and my girls trip! What characters would you add to a banner? I’d love to hear from you in the comments! Check out all the vibrant color options on the website this month to get ready for your Halloween decorating! Thanks for stopping by!
