Hi there! It’s Annie back with a fun idea for your New Year’s Eve party. With just a few dies and punches and some Stardream Metallic Cardstock, you can turn plain cupcakes into festive treats with these quick and easy toppers.
Stardream metallic cardstocks are perfect for any New Year’s projects. The shimmery smooth surface provides just enough shine for a classy and elegant look.
Begin by die-cutting or punching several two-inch scalloped circles from Silver and Antique Gold Stardream Metallic Cardstock. For an average-sized cupcake, you probably don’t want to make your toppers much larger than 2 to 2.5 inches in diameter. Die-cut or punch several 1.75 inch circles from Onyx and and Silver Stardream Metallic Cardstock as well.
Next, die-cut or punch simple New Year’s Eve icon shapes from Silver, Antique Gold, Onyx, and Quartz cardstocks. I cut these shapes with my Silhouette CAMEO, however many dies and punches are available to cut similar shapes. The snowflake is a great generic shape for any winter parties if you aren’t hosting guests on New Year’s Eve.
Attach lollipop sticks to the back of the scalloped circles with hot glue. You can also use toothpicks for this step, but I prefer the longer, sturdier lollipop sticks.
I like to sandwich the stick between the two layers I punched rather than just gluing it to the back. This allows me to decorate both sides and also gives a more finished look. To attach the front to the topper, layer two foam tabs on top of each other in several places and press the circle on top.
The finished cupcake toppers look like this from the front. I just love all of the shimmer and dimension!
Insert the topper into your cupcake until it reaches the cake…if your icing is fluffy, a heavy topper may not stay upright!
Serve and enjoy! I hope you enjoyed this project and thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to visit the CutCardStock store to purchase any of the supplies showcased today and remember that Stardream Metallic Cardstocks are on sale this month!
