First, I cut an 8 ½ x 11 piece of Sweet Tooth cardstock in half widthwise, to create a top-fold A2 card. Then, I folded the card and cut out the hourglass shape using a 3 ½ ” circle template, cutting a little over 1″ from each side and about 1″ from the top and 1 ½ ” from the bottom.
Next, I sponged Bamboo Ink all over the card front, to give the impression of lightly tanned skin.
I added a 1½” X 4 ¼ strip of Blue Raspberry cardstock to the bottom of the card (for modesty’s sake- ha ha! )
I cut four 2″ strips of Kraft cardstock, and using my fringe scissors, created my hula skirt. I rolled the edges around a pen to give the strands some curl. Starting at the top of the Blue Raspberry strip, I glued the first row of skirt and trimmed the edges. I added a row underneath and two rows above, the highest one at “waist” level”
I cut two circles using a 7/8″ circle punch from Hot Fudge Cardstock.
I adhered bakers twine to the back of one circle using foam tape, then wrapped the twine around the inside of the card to come around the other side of the front. I attached the other end of the twine to the foam tape on the back of the first circle, and then adhered to the card front for the bikini top (aka the coconut bra). Then, I adhered the other circle to the card front.
For my lovely lei, I used my Cricut Art Philosophy cartidge to cut ½” flowers in Pop Tones Red Hot, Orange Fizz, Grape Jelly, Lemon Drop, Blue Raspberry cardstocks.
Then, using a needle and clear thread, I threaded each one (about sixty!) onto the string. I punched a hole at the top of the card with my needle, and threaded one end into each hole. I tied the strings in a knot inside the fold of the card, and since it’s clear, you can’t tell! 🙂
Finally, I added a clear sparkle for the navel, and stamped “Aloha” in Lagoon Ink around it.
