Road Trip Birthday Card

Are you hitting the road this summer? Hi, I’m Maureen (A Little Mo Crafty), and I’ve got road trip inspiration for you with this easel birthday card created with CutCardStock papers. I created this easel card to celebrate a friend’s 55th birthday. The layered sun and desert details add dimension and meaning to the design. Plus, this handmade card is a memorable way to celebrate a milestone birthday.

To begin, use an A2-sized card base in Classic Crest Solar White. Alternatively, you can cut your own to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Fold it in half, then score halfway down the front panel at 2.75″.

Next, cut your patterned paper to 4″ x 5.25″. I chose a map print to reinforce the road trip theme. Then, cut the piece in half and adhere one section to the top of the front fold. Finally, adhere the second piece to the inside of the card along the bottom edge of the back panel.

Now, cut your scenery using your choice of dies with DCS Ginger Snap Brown for the backdrop and Granny Smith Green for the foliage. I used a mountain scene from Lawn Fawn. Next, sponge the edges and any defining areas with a slightly darker ink. Additionally, choose inks that are slightly darker than the paper.

From here, cut a large circle from patterned yellow paper. This circle becomes the sunset in the display. Then, stamp your favorite sentiment in an arc across the top.

Adhere the circle to the bottom panel on the front of your card, but apply glue only to the bottom so it pops up when you fold the card.

Next, glue the mountain scene over the circle. Again, apply glue only to the bottom of the card so the scene pops up when you fold it.

Stamp or die cut a car image, then color it as desired. Fussy cut the image and place it on your scenery. I added foam tape for extra dimension.

For the finishing details, I printed a Speed Limit 55 sign because the recipient is turning 55 years old. I also printed a small license plate sentiment. Then, I printed both pieces on Classic Crest Solar White and cut the sign pole from Lessebo Granite Gray.

To hold the front flap in place, stamp a sentiment and adhere it with foam tape on the bottom inside of the card. When you prop the card up, it will display like an easel.

I love doing easel cards because they fold flat in an envelope but make a cute display too. I hope you’re inspired by this road trip birthday card project! Tell me in the comments what travel themed projects you’re inspired to make using CutCardStock papers.
