Shopping Cart Birthday Card

Hi everyone, I hope you’re having an amazing week! Do you love the unexpected when you open a birthday card? Oh, I sure do! Leslie here, sharing a tutorial for making a super cute three-dimensional shopping cart birthday card. I used quite a variety of our cardstock to cut out all the pieces, which I’ll list below. My mantra should be “So many die sets in my stash that have never been used, so little time!” HA! It was almost as fun stuffing this cart full of these birthday gifts as ‘real’ shopping is! Who wouldn’t love a new potted plant, a couple pillows, a purse, and head phones for their birthday?! Let me show you how I made this!

Die Cut the Shopping Cart Pieces

Cut the pieces for the three-dimensional shopping cart from the following cardstock:
Stardream Metallic Jupiter
Bright Silver Foil
Lessebo Pitch Black

Additionally, I punched two 1/2″ circles to use as wheel bases. Being a tad larger than the wheels themselves, I trimmed the punched circles when I assembled the wheels.

Assemble the Elements for the Shopping Cart Birthday Card

Upon assembling the shopping cart, I decided to reinforce the handle and wheel base. Accordingly, I cut those pieces a second time from Classic Crest 165# Double-Thick Solar White. Then I glued the sturdy pieces behind the silver ones.

Next, cut the pieces for all the birthday gifts from the following cardstock, then assemble them:
Plant: Pop Tone Jellybean Green and Gumdrop Green, and Rubber Ducky Yellow
1st pillow: Flamingo plus patterned paper in stash
2nd pillow: Lessebo Brick Orange plus patterned paper in stash
Purse: Pop Tone Red Hot plus patterned paper in stash
Head phones: Aqua, Lessebo Pitch Black and Bright Silver Foil

Add the Gifts to the Shopping Cart

Now it’s time to arrange the gifts in the shopping cart and affix them with 1-mm and 2-mm thick foam squares. Difference in height of the foam squares really adds to the depth. So fun… almost as satisfying as filling a real shopping cart, lol!

Cut Card Base & Layers for the Shopping Cart Birthday Card

Instead of cutting a card base, I grabbed a Classic Crest A2 Folded 110# Solar White Card Base. Having these on hand is a huge time-saver.

Afterwards, I cut the following layering panels:
Front layer: Patterned paper in stash
Angled front layer: Pop Tone Jellybean Green (reserve the pieces trimmed off the top and bottom)
Inside layer: Lessebo Brick Orange
Sentiment panel for the inside: Classic Crest 80# Solar White
Embellishing strips for the inside: Reserved angled pieces and very narrow strips of patterned paper from stash

Adhere the Layers

Using a combination of tape runner and wet glue, I adhered the layers and embellishing strips. Did this for both the front of the card base and inside sentiment panel. Tying the design together between the front and inside by using the leftover angled pieces creates interest.

Stamp the Sentiments

Having lots of birthday stamp sets to choose from, I grabbed an older one that hasn’t been loved in a while. Stamped both sentiments in black ink.

Complete the Shopping Cart Birthday Card

Added several iridescent gemstones to the card front, and adhered the sentiment panel to the inside. This adorable shopping cart birthday card is complete!

Summing up, these are the other products I used:
PAPER: docrafts Papermania Happy Days 6×6 designstax double-sided papers
STAMPS: Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blossoms stamp set
INK: Versafine Onyx Black ink
DIES/PUNCHES: Spellbinders 3D Shopping Cart – Right Facing die set, Spellbinders Shopping Run die set, Stampin’ Up! 1/2″ Circle Punch
