Picket Fence Easter Card Tutorial Featuring CutCardStock and Layered Die Cutting

There’s something timeless about a white picket fence and a basket full of colorful Easter eggs. Hi, I’m Rick, and today I’m sharing how I created this Picket Fence Easter Basket Happy Easter Card using layered die cutting, stamping, and beautiful cardstock from CutCardStock. If you love clean layers with soft shading and dimension, this project is for you.

This card measures 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” and is full of texture while still keeping a clean and simple feel.

Why I Chose These CutCardStock Papers

For the card base, I used Cougar White Smooth CardStock 110 lbs. It’s sturdy, bright white, and holds up beautifully to layering. It also provides a smooth surface for crisp stamping.

For the die cuts, I combined:

These colors work beautifully together for spring. They cut cleanly and are perfect for layering and ink blending.

Step 1 – Create the Card Base

Cut a piece of Cougar White Smooth CardStock 110 lbs to 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”. Score at 4 1/4” and fold to create a standard A2 card base. To create the pickets, cut off 3 1/2″ from the card front. From this piece, cut into four 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ strips.

Using additional Cougar White Smooth CardStock, cut four horizontal strips that measure 3/8″ x 4 1/4″ and two horizontal strips that measure 5/8″ x 4 1/4″ to create the picket fence panel.

To create the picket fence design place of the vertical strips, cut from the card base, over the right edge of the card base. Next evenly space the remaining three strips between the left panel and the right edge. If necessary use removable low tack tape or an acrylic block to hold the strips in place.

Step 2 – Build the Background

Adhere one of the 3/8″ x 4 1/4″ horizontal strips to the fence layers using a dot of Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue about 1/2″ from the bottom of the vertical strips. Adhere the 3/8″ strip across the fence pickets along the bottom edge. Then repeat the process to adhere another 3/8″ horizontal strip along the top edge. Keep everything straight and evenly spaced for a clean look.

Adhere a 5/8″ horizontal strip across the middle of the fence card front.

Inside the card, adhere the remaining two 3/8″ horizontal strips across the top and bottom of the picket fence. Lining these up to hind the ones you placed on the front of the card. Next, adhere the last 5/8″ horizontal strip across the middle.

Stamp the “Happy Easter” sentiment from the Hello Spring Stamp Set in Caramel ink across one of the top fence panels.

Step 3 – Die Cut and Add Shading

Die cut the basket pieces using:

Lightly ink blend coordinating inks along the edges of the die cuts for soft shading. This simple step adds depth without making the card feel heavy.

Add white gel pen highlights to the eggs and bow for a polished finish.

Step 4 – Assemble and Finish

Layer the basket pieces together and adhere them toward the bottom of the card front. Tuck the grass behind the basket and pop in the colorful eggs.

Make sure your layers are balanced. Because Cougar White Smooth CardStock is sturdy, it easily supports these dimensional elements without warping.

Inspiration Behind This Card

I wanted to create a bright Easter card that felt cheerful but still clean and structured. The picket fence layout keeps everything grounded while the colorful cardstock brings in that spring energy.

This project is perfect for beginners learning layering techniques. It’s also great for experienced crafters who enjoy adding soft shading and dimension without bulk.

Creative Tip: When layering white-on-white backgrounds like this fence, small shadows and spacing make all the difference. Don’t press layers completely flat—let them create natural depth.

I hope this Easter card idea inspires you to pull out your dies and create your own layered design using CutCardStock. Have you tried building a background from strips like this? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear how you would customize it!
