Hey crafty friends, it’s Tiffani from A Krafting Alley! Today I’m sharing how I made this fun and colorful Happy Birthday Balloon banner that’s perfect for any birthday celebration. It has multi layered balloons, presents, a cake as well as a cupcake!
This banner was made using an SVG I designed, cardstock from CutCardStock.com, along with foam tape, liquid glue, and some twine I already had on hand. One of my favorite things about banners like this is how easy they are to customize — you can make it in any color combination to match your party theme.
Supplies Used
- SVG file
- Electronic cutting machine (I used my Silhouette Cameo 5)
- Cardstock from CutCardStock.com:
- Foam tape (thin and thick)
- Foam squares
- Liquid glue
- Twine
Cutting the Pieces
To start, I cut out all of the pieces using my Cameo 5 and the SVG file. You can use the SVG file with any electronic cutting machine you may have that reads SVGs.
Assembling the Banner Pieces
Present:
I began by assembling the present. I added liquid glue to the back of the Coffee Bean bow outline, then placed foam tape on the white portion of the bow for dimension. The bow was layered onto the Amaranth pink present outline.
Next, I added both wide and skinny foam tape to the back of the Amaranth pink present outline and adhered it to the Pink Tutu base of the present for extra dimension.
Cake:
For the cake, I added thin foam tape and foam squares to the Coffee Bean cake layer and adhered it to the Cougar White cake piece. Then I added foam tape to the back of the Cougar White layer and attached it to the Banana Split cake base. This created a fun, dimensional three-tier cake look.
Cupcake:
I started the cupcake by adding foam squares to the back of the cherry and placing it on the Coffee Bean portion of the cupcake. I used liquid glue to adhere the Coffee Bean layer to the Pink Tutu piece.
Next, I added both thin and thicker foam tape to the back of the Pink Tutu layer and placed it on top of the Cougar White cupcake base, giving it a cute dimensional finish.
Balloons:
For each balloon, I added foam tape to the back of the Cougar White balloon piece and placed it behind the Amaranth pink balloon layer. Then I added foam tape to the back of each letter of the sentiment and adhered them to the top center of the balloons.
Putting the Banner Together
To assemble the banner, I grabbed some brown twine from my stash and started stringing everything together.
Pro Tip: Start at the end of the word and work your way backward. This makes it much easier to estimate how much string you need without cutting it ahead of time.
I strung the cupcake first, then added the letters for “birthday” starting from the end of the word and working backward, followed by the cake piece.
For the second banner piece, I strung a present, spelled “happy” backward, and finished with another present on the opposite end.
Final Thoughts
This completes a fun and cheerful Happy Birthday banner! I hope this inspires you to create your own banner using colors that perfectly match your party theme.
Thanks so much for reading!
