Sending Warm Thoughts

Do you love the softness of colors in winter? I do! Hi it’s Patty and today’s card share is a project using slightly muted rainbow colors. In my mind, it makes them more winter. To go with the winter theme, my sentiment is “Sending Warm Thoughts and Big Hugs”.

Catherine Pooler Inside Out Thinking of You Stamp Set

Getting Started

For me, the best way to accurately stencil the birds is to die cut them out and then place them back into the negative paper that we die cut from. This makes lining up the stencil very easy. I tried it without die cutting the birds first and they didn’t work out very well.

Birds In Negative

Next, although the stencil and packaging had color suggestions, I wanted each bird to be monochromatic with rainbow -ish colors. I choose one light and one darker ink shade. All inks are Catherine Pooler inks. For the red, I used Samba and Rouge. The green bird is In The Park and Aquatini inks. For the blue bird, I used Oh Boy and Something Borrowed. The pink bird is It’s A Girl and Be Mine and the orange bird is Apricot and Bellini. I love how easy and smooth the ink blends on the Cougar White.

Blended Birds

Because I was in a coloring mood, I broke out my Polychromos colored pencils plus a couple of Copic Markers and lightly went over each bird. It was so relaxing and they blended so well over the blended ink.

Creating the Background

Next Steps

Now that I have finished playing with my birds, it was time to create are soft background. I don’t really own light colored inks, so to soften them just a little, I ink blended over Sno-Cone cardstock and it turned out just as I had hoped!

To create the bottom layer, I used Cummerbund, then Pucker Up. Next, I used Flirty Fuchsia and finished the blending with Dress Blues. Then, I wanted to create the snow so I used Dr. PH Martin’s Bleed Proof White and flicked it on to my background. I watered the Bleed Proof White down with water.

Sentiment Close Up

Finishing Up.

To finish the card, I die cut two branches and colored them with my Copic Markers. I cut one third off one branch so that I had three branches. Then, I stamped the sentiment and heat embossed with Wow Opaque White embossing Powder. Next, I adhered the birds and branches to the background. The finishing touch are the little gold stars from Studio Katina that I glued to the background to add a touch of sparkle.
