Hey krafty friends! It’s Tiffani from A Krafting Alley, and today I’m sharing how I created this cute Merry Christmas Shaker Cake Topper. It’s a fun, sparkly project that adds a festive touch to your holiday desserts — and bonus, kids love shaking it when the party’s over!
Supplies Used
- SVG file for the Shaker Cake Topper
- Electronic cutting machine (I used my Silhouette Cameo 5)
- Cardstock from CutCardStock.com
- Lessebo Hunter Green 83 lb
- PopTone Gumdrop Green 65 lb
- Basis Burgundy 80 lb
- Discount Cardstock Red Wagon 80 lb
- Cougar White cardstock 80 lb
- A sheet of acetate (any clear sheet you have on hand works great)
- Shaker bits – I used a mix of sequins and beads I had in my stash:
- White, light green, dark green, and striped red and silver sequins
- Small white and green beads
- Foam tape and foam squares
- Liquid glue
- Hot glue gun
- Cake sticks
First, I cut out all of my pieces on my Cameo 5 using the SVG file.
I started by assembling the “Merry Christmas” sentiment.
Once the glue was on the back of the white letters, I pressed the letters onto the red shadow layer and set it aside to dry.
Next, I worked on the bow. I glued the burgundy layer on top of the red layer, then added foam tape to the back to give it some dimension.
For the present shaker base, I glued the dark green outline to my acetate sheet. After that dried, I flipped it over and added foam tape to the back of the acetate. I poured my shaker bits into each section — mixing sequins and beads for a fun sparkle — then sealed it up by attaching the light green backing piece on top.
Once that was done, I attached the bow (with its foam tape backing) to the top of the present. Then I added foam tape to the back of the “Merry Christmas” sentiment and placed it on the front of the present.
Adding the Cake Sticks
To finish, I flipped the topper over and used my hot glue gun to attach the cake sticks to the back.
To make the backing even and sturdy, I added a layer of foam tape around the edges and a bit of hot glue in the center. Then I pressed on the back layer of the cake topper to close it all up.
And that’s it!
This Merry Christmas Shaker Cake Topper turned out so cute and festive — it’s the perfect finishing touch for your Christmas cake or dessert table. You can also skip the acetate and shaker bits if you prefer a simpler, layered version.
