Handmade gifts always feel more special, and this DIY jewelry box was a touchdown! I built it from sturdy CutCardStock and gave it a sporty twist for my football-loving friend. Hi, I’m Maureen (A Little Mo Crafty) and I’m amazed at how versatile cardstock can be for gifts.
Let me show you how I made this project – it’s an easy last minute idea if you don’t have gift-wrapping supplies on hand. Start with a sheet of 110 lb. Cougar White cardstock. This is such a great choice for making sturdy 3D projects! Cut this on an electronic cutting machine using a heavy cut setting.
One tip I can share: search for 3″ jewelry box in your design libraries for your machine. If you don’t have a machine, Pinterest and YouTube both have easy tutorials for box-making with a scoring board.
Next, fold and assemble the box with some sturdy craft or hot glue. To make sure the tabs don’t move during assembly, I use craft clamps until it dries.
Now cut a coordinating cardstock color at about 1/4″ less in width than the dimensions of your box. Cut one square for the top and 4 pieces for the sides. For example, this 3″ box needed pieces cut at 2.75″. I used Basis Burgundy for this because it is the color of my friend’s favorite team! CutCardStock has all the fan colors you need!
Here’s a fun addition to this box – you can also make filler for the inside using cardstock! I took scraps of Basis Burgundy and Basis Light Yellow and shredded them with a hand shredder. Additionally, a shredding scissors would work well too. Take these paper pieces, crumple them up and fill your box on the inside.
Once that’s done, attach a sentiment to the inside if you desire. I added a die cut “happy” sentiment in Lessebo Pitch Black and then a stamped sentiment on Basis Light Yellow to the inside lid. This part is the best thing about personalized gifts – you can decorate anywhere you want!
Finally, decorate the outside of your box! I did nested circles in both 110lb. Cougar White and a patterned yellow gingham for the top, then added a cute patch I found at the store as a bow. Now your box is ready to give away!
While you’re at it, why not use up those scraps and create a coordinating card too? Special people should get extra love and craftiness!
Why settle for store-bought when you can craft something one-of-a-kind? With the fan color options at CutCardStock, your DIY jewelry box can match any style—or any team. Visit their website and get inspired to kick off your next creative win.
