Firecracker Treats

Looking for a fun and festive way to dress up your summer party treats? I’m Maureen (A Little Mo Crafty) and I’ve got just the project using colorful CutCardStock papers to make your table pop. These firecracker treats are easy to create and sure to be a hit at any patriotic celebration!

To begin, start with a strip of red, white and blue cardstock. This will make approximately 3 firecracker treats, so cut more if you need to do a bunch. I’ve chosen Lessebo Cherry Red, Classic Crest Solar White and Lessebo Splash Blue. Cut these into strips at 1.75″, 2.25″, and 3.25″ by 8.25″ respectively. Next, select a few pipe cleaners in coordinating colors – I used some leftover white and silver ones I had in my stash.

At this point, cut the strips on the long side with a shredding (or fringe) scissors. I cut mine about 2/3rds of the way across so that the strips will fan out when rolled. Next, cut these down to about 3-4 separate pieces. It will depend on the sturdiness of your pipe cleaner. Too much paper will get too top heavy for the project.

Take your pipe cleaners and wrap them around a pen a couple times to make a curly tail. Bend the top end up to attach to your firework pieces.

Start with the longest strip – in my case, the Lessebo Splash Blue piece. Add a dab of hot glue to the tip of the pipe cleaner. Glue the end of the pipe cleaner to the non-fringed edge of the paper, starting at the end. Additionally, you can add glue dots as you roll up the paper around the pipe cleaner.

Next, take your second piece in length and roll it around the pipe cleaner. After that, finish with the shortest piece, then flare out the fringe to look like a firework.

Now, attach the long end of the pipe cleaner to the back of a cookie stick. I am using the nutty bars decorated in red, white and blue. You could do this with any type of treat like pretzel sticks or other cookie bars. I’ve used tape so it can be removed easily. Basically, get creative with the treats you choose or make your own!

Finally, print a few fun sentiments on Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. Have fun with this! Next, trim these sentiments down to size, punch a hole in the ends and add a flag tip. Then, attach to your firecracker with colored twine.

This is a cute display in a patriotic jar or cup! I also would like to try this craft for a birthday and make these look like candles.

What would you create with the CutCardStock papers? Let us know in the comments! In the meantime, enjoy your summer and see you next time!
