May is a big month of birthdays for us! My mom celebrates her birthday and Mother’s Day, along with several other family members. Hello, I’m Maureen! I created a card for her that celebrates both events using CutCardStock papers, which add such a bright and cheery touch — just like her!
To begin, I started with a sheet of the DCS Wild Blueberry Navy paper, cut at 5″ by 6.5″. You’ll notice that I trim this down later, but I began with a big canvas. I didn’t know how big my letters and floral pattern were going to be.
Next, I also cut the letters M-O-M in an alphabet die set that has an offset background. These colors are Stardream Metallic Rose Quartz for the letter front, and Strawberry Pink Pearl for the backs. After that, I flipped the paper to the non-pearlized side for the back since there was plenty of shine from the rose paper.
After that, I prepared the leaves for the background. I picked Pop Tone Gum Drop Green for this, and brushed the edges of the leaves with a darker green ink. I cut several leaves so I could choose as I go for the layout, saving the extras for another project.
To start the layout, I’ve placed the letters first in a vertical position on the front panel. Then, I added the leaves to make sure I had space. I glued down everything except the O. For this, I used raised pop dots.
Next, I cut a die cut bow from my stash in Astrobright Lunar Blue and DCS Blast Off Blue. The bow was inked for dimension on the edges and in the middle. I also cut a couple flowers just in case, but decided not to use them.
Finally, I placed the bow and flowers! I adhered the bow to the top of the O, then placed 2 sets of flowers and leaves in the corners underneath. The tulips are DCS Light Yellow and the leaves are again done in Pop Tone Gum Drop Green.
The rest is just fine details! I added some coordinating enamel dots and a little bit of glitter glue to make the card shine. The panel is secured to a 5×7 A7 Cougar White folded card, and trimmed down to size. Now we’re ready to celebrate!
How are you making cards for those special birthdays? I hope this inspires you to check out the variety of colors on the CutCardStock website this month. Cheers! See you next time!
