Hello friends! Birgit here with you today. Even though I live in the North East where it’s definitely not tropical, I still enjoy everything about summer and the tropics. I’m so happy when I can create my own feelings of a tropical paradise right in my craft room. I hope this fun, tropical card makes you smile.
The Supplies:
As you’ll see in the photo above, I’ve listed the colors I used to make this card. A few other colors were added in and linked below in the body of the post. Let me show you how this card came together.
Preparing the Pieces:
I began by die cutting all the pieces for the card. The tropical leaves were cut out of Lessebo Sweet Mint cardstock.
To add a bit of warmth and tropical color to the leaves, I sponged Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink onto each leaf. This adds a rich vibrancy to the leaves and really brings them to life.
Next, I die cut the pieces for the flamingo’s out of Lessebo Blossom and Bubble Gum colored cardstock, and added more color by sponging Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Ink to the body.
I die cut enough pieces to make two flamingo’s, which will allow me to have one left over for a future project. You’ll notice that I also added a bit of white sponged ink to their wings.
Creating the Background:
Moving on to the background, I die cut a rectangle out of Lessebo Arctic Blue cardstock and stenciled some polka dots using Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. This adds a bit of dimension and playfulness to the background. Now it’s time to pull this card together.
I made the card base using Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. Once I determined the layout, I glued all the elements onto the card front using Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. A Double Sided Foam Adhesive Circle was tucked under the wing to add a bit of dimension. I used a white gel pen to add more detail to the flamingo and leaves.
Moving on to the sentiment, I die cut the letters out of Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock and mounted them to the background, which was cut from Silk Glitter Opulent Opal cardstock. The silk glittered cardstock adds a nice touch of texture and opulence to this card.
A trio of Lilac flowers that were left over from a previous project were added to the layout. Once they were glued into place, fairy gems were adhered to the center of each flower to finish the card.
The Finished Card:
To summarize, I think this card turned out so sweet and fun! The colors are bright and vivid and hopefully the design will make the recipient smile.
