Have you ever dry-embossed vellum and had it crack or not just not show the pattern well? That’s not a problem with the Curious Translucent Clear cardstock used on this project. Toni here and I can honestly say this is the nicest vellum I have ever used and I’ve used a lot of different ones (paper hoarding?–never! LOL).
designing the card base
Firstly, I embossed the Curious Translucent Clear cardstock using a Spellbinders 3D embossing folder. I was so surprised (and excited) that the vellum didn’t crack at all. Indeed even the inset button portion of the folder came out perfectly.
Using Scor-Tape, I wrapped the vellum at the top and bottom around a piece of Bazzill Marble Robin’s Egg cardstock which has a lovely swirled blue pattern. Granted, it’s a bit hard to see in the photos but in person it’s more obvious.
Adhering Vellum
I recommend using a strong tape adhesive with this vellum. I tried a few options I had in my adhesive stash (yes, I hoard that too!).
- Liquid Glue: This took too long to dry for this impatient crafter;
- Scor-Tape: Fabulous adhesion but visible so best to use where it can be hidden;
- Pink Gun Tape Runner: My Scotch one worked fine but I could easily pull it away from the vellum;
- Dotty Tape Runner: Tombow worked very well on the sentiment;
- Vellum adhesive tape runner: I have an ancient runner that is meant specifically for vellum (by Tombow, no longer available sadly). It worked a treat but I decided to use the Scor-Tape as I could hide it behind the flowers and on the back.
Assembling The Crate
In order to assemble the crate, I used Discount Sand Castle Tan and Environment Desert Storm cardstocks with liquid glue. Interestingly enough, the crate top layer is slightly larger than the bottom one so when you adhere them together, it creates a little pouch of sorts to easily fit in whatever you’re placing inside of it.
Assembling The Flowers
I used a variety of cardstocks to create the floral elements, including:
- Cougar White cardstock
- Lessebo Colors Premium Blossom Pink cardstock
- Lessebo Colors Premium Sweet Mint cardstock
- Lessebo Colors Premium Bubble Gum Pink cardstock
- Pop Tone Banana Split cardstock
- Pop Tone Lemon Drop cardstock
- Pop Tone Grapesicle cardstock
- Pop Tone Sour Apple cardstock
- Pop Tone Gumdrop Green cardstock
- Pop Tone Spearmint cardstock
Notice how well the blossoms took the impression of the dies, particularly the Queen Anne’s Lace (white). The crate shows the woodgrain very well too. I did sponge some of the elements to easily create shading. In particular, you can see this on the bell flowers and lavendar.
The Sentiment
For the sentiment, I embossed the Curious Translucent Clear cardstock with Versamark and Ranger Gold embossing powder. As usual, I forgot to use my anti-static tool but I didn’t experience any stray embossing powder–woo hoo! I used the Tombow permanent dot tape to attach it to the card.
