Hey everybody, happy Friday! Are you gearing up yet for Father’s Day with your crafting? I’m working on both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day projects. Leslie here, sharing a tutorial for making a super cute shirt card for Dad which is my own design. It’s super easy and really packs a punch. You can dress it up or down, and make it masculine, feminine or kid-friendly. I used Misty Blue and Navy Blue from our Lessebo line (my favorite) along with Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.
Cut Shirt Card Base & Layers
Lessebo Misty Blue cardstock:
Card base: 4-1/4″ x 10″, scored at 4-1/2″.
Sleeves: 2-1/8″ x 2-1/8″ square (will be cut in half diagonally for the two sleeves).
Patterned paper of choice:
Shirt front: 4-1/4″ x 4-1/2″.
Sleeves: 2-1/8″ x 2-1/8″ square (will be cut in half diagonally for the two sleeves).
Collar: 1″ x 1-1/2″ (cut two).
Placket: 1/2″ x 6″.
Create Collar
First, place a piece of removable tape vertically down center of the card base at 2-1/8″. Next, draw a light pencil line on the tape to mark the exact center.
Fold the card base on the score line. You’ll notice the back flap is 1″ higher than the front flap.
Unfold the card base and place it in your paper trimmer with the long edge across the top. The removable tape should be on your left . Measure 1″ inward from the left edge and make a 7/8″ cut downward from the top edge. Rotate the card base and repeat on the other side. These narrow flaps will form the collar.
Fold each narrow flap inward in a diagonal fashion. The top points on each flap should meet in the middle at the pencil line on the tape. Remove the tape.
Adhere Layers & Attach Sleeves
Adhere the patterned paper layer to the front of the card base.
Similarly, adhere the two collar pieces to each side of the collar and trim off the angled edge.
Additionally, adhere the patterned paper square (for the sleeves) to the blue cardstock square. Then cut the square in half diagonally.
Next, apply a very thin line of wet glue to the long side of each sleeve piece. Glue one to each side of the lower portion of the card base, lining up the points with lower edge.
This is what the front of your shirt card should look like so far.
Finish Collar & Add Placket/Buttons
Apply a thin adhesive foam square to the underside of both the left and right sides of collar. Be mindful of the placement of the foam squares. Line them up with the top edge of the card base and the angled score line. They should not touch the edge of the patterned paper when folded down and adhered. The collar will keep the card closed once assembly is complete.
Now, adhere the placket down the center of the shirt front and trim off any excess at the bottom. Using a ruler and white paint pen, mark where the buttons should go, and then add the buttons. I used enamel dots but gemstones, brads, sequins, etc. can be used instead.
Add Sentiments & Complete Shirt Card
Front: Stamp a sentiment in blue ink on a Lessebo Misty Blue cardstock scrap and cut it with a label die. Cut a slightly larger label from Lessebo Navy Blue cardstock and adhere it beneath the sentiment label.
Inside: Cut a sentiment panel from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock and embellish it with a leftover strip of patterned paper. Stamp a sentiment in blue ink and adhere the panel to the inside of the card. Be sure the fold is at the top so the card opens correctly.
To open and close the shirt card, gently bow the card front and tuck the top underneath the collar.
Summing up, these are the other products I used:
PAPER: Craft Consortium Tartan 6×6 double-sided papers
STAMPS: Brutus Monroe Remote King stamp set and Super Sentimental stamp set
INK: Catherine Pooler Juniper Mist ink, Sharpie Fine Point White Paint Pen
DIES/PUNCHES: Love From Lizi Stitched Label Nested Cutting Dies
ACCESSORIES: Fiskars 12″ ProCision Rotary Bypass Paper Trimmer, Bearly Art precision craft glue, My Sweet Petunia Precision Glue Press, Mini MISTI, Big Shot, Spellbinders Best Ever Craft Tape 1/4″, Keep It Simple Back To Basics Royal Enamel Dots, Scrapbook Adhesives Thin 3D Foam Squares (black)
