BetterPress and Paint

Good morning! Sharon here, and we are still trying to get back into school day routines. How about you? I help out with art classes at the local library. The teacher’s birthday is next week so I planned a card for her.

Did you know that CutCardStock has a number of different cotton papers that work great with the BetterPress system? The one I am using today is Savoy 100% cotton in Natural White.

I subscribe to Spellbinders BetterPress Club and I am going to use August’s products for today’s card. I am using a variety of brightly colored inks on each of the paint splats. I’m running them through individually so they are all individual sections with no muddy looking images.

Don’t worry if you get smudges… it adds to the paint splash effect!

Next we need to build the paint brush, This has 4 different dies and I am using Pop Tone cardstock in Hot Fudge for the handle and Razzleberry for the drippy paint.

Paint brushes have a metal band that hold the brush hairs in place. You need to cut this from Stardream Metallic Silver. Next cut the brush hairs from Sand Castle Tan.

Building the brush is pretty straight forward. un the handle section through again to get the embossed grain effect deeper. You also need to cut four sections for the brush hairs (or more if you like) to make it look like a brush.

Now to build your card; I do like to have a mat behind my card front to make the details stand out so I am using Razzleberry for this. I always use Classic Crest Solar White 110lb for my card bases because this is strong enough to stand up. Add the mat to the card and then the front with the paint splashes.

I do like to mat sentiments too but sometimes I struggle to get these the right size. The paint press comes with a selection of sentiments and a die to cut them. Using the Savoy Cardstock I pressed and diecut my sentiment. To make a mat for this you could just trim a piece of cardstock to fit. I am drawing around the outside of the die and cutting this out with scissors. This gives the perfect size without the need for a ruler!

To adhere the brush and sentiment to the card you will need Double Sided Foam Squares. Place your brush as an angle – this allows the paint splashes to be seen. When you add foam squares to your sentiment leave the center clear. This will allow it to lay across the paint brush handle.

As the paint is dripping from the brush I am covering the paint piece with Crystal Glaze to give it a shine.

It is fun sometimes to do messy crafting; I personally don’t like getting messy so adding paint splashes is my way of being messy. What about you?
