Have you watched the new Beetlejuice movie yet? With Halloween just around the corner, it seemed to be the perfect time for that movie to hit the big screen! Hi y’all! Misty, aka @Mommyofkidz, here today sharing a fun Beetlejuice inspired Halloween Card. The new movie was such a great tribute to the original! It was cheesy, it was ridiculous, it was slapstick funny…it was all the great things that the first one was! Since the new movie honored the original so perfectly, I decided that I wanted to do the same. Today, my card will be made entirely with scraps, hand tools, ribbon, letter stickers, etc. All the same great things that we had “back in the day” when scrapbooking and paper crafting became “all the rage”. In other words, NO cutting machines required! I am paying tribute to the beginnings, and the paper crafters before me.
Gathering the Guts:
First, I always gather my supplies. I don’t always use everything that I gather, but I do use most. This step helps me in a few ways. One, I have everything within reach and do not have to search for it. Two, knowing what supplies I have to use helps me to form an idea of what the final outcome will be. Finally, as I am gathering my supplies, occasionally I will come across something that I forgot that I had. Great way to use supplies that had been long forgotten! In this case, I decided to go through my Bag Of Scraps from CutCardStock rather than cutting into more new cardstock. SCORE!! I had so many scraps in the colors that I needed! Ultimately, I used Stardream Metallic ONYX black, Stardream Metallic Crystal White, Stardream Metallic FAIRWAY green, and Stardream Metallic PUNCH *purple. The perfect Beetlejuice colors!
Back to the Basics
Basic Black and White stripes that is! Beetlejuice had a very basic fashion sense but definitely had a flair for the dramatic. For this Halloween card, I stayed true to that by cutting several 1/2 inch wide stripes in Stardream Metallic ONYX black and Stardream Metallic Crystal White. Using Stardream Metallic FAIRWAY green cut at 6 1/2 inches X 3 3/4 inch, I began alternating the the strips to replicate Beetlejuice’s suit. Next, I used my handy dandy paper trimmer to cut off the excess ends. Finally, I adhered that piece to one flap of a 5×7 A7 gatefold card in Stardream Metallic Amethyst, leaving an inch and a half hanging over. At this point, it is time to make the inside message using one of Beetlejuice’s most famous quotes and some letter stickers in the brightest green I had in my stash.
It’s SHOWTIME!
After building the basics of the card, it was time to add the FLAIR! Beetlejuice was one of my favorite movies from my childhood, and some of the quotes have always stuck with me. Besides “It’s Showtime!” I also still giggle when I think of him saying, “We Come for your daughter, Chuck”. I don’t know why I found that so funny, but I did. Hence, it has made its way to this card. After adding a few paper roses and some sequins, I added the final touch…a ribbon to hold it all together.
