Beachy Blues layout

I will 100% admit that the beach is one of my happy places.  Here in the Pacific Northwest our beaches are not warm so you will never find me laying out sunbathing on them, but I am up for a beach walk anytime!  Now that Summer is here, I am busy planning my next venture out to the coast so that I will have new beach photos to scrap!

Getting Started

For this page I wanted to use a large sun cut file and I knew I wanted to use ripped layers of blue cardstock to remind me of the waves at the beach.  So I pulled out the following cardstock colors to create my page.

Products used, all from the DCS line:

Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White cardstock

Light Yellow cardstock

Canvas Textured Surf cardstock

Canvas Textured Caribbean Blue cardstock

Aqua cardstock

Blast off Blue cardstock

Once I had my colors out I started by cutting a large sun out of the DCS Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo and a cut file from Peartree Cutfiles.  I was impressed with how smoothly this paper cut!

Once I had the cut file, I used the DCS Light Yellow cardstock to back the rays of the sun.  At this point I knew I wanted to back the big circle opening with the ripped layers of cardstock.  I cut strips of the DCA Canvas Textured Surf cardstock, DCS Canvas Textured Carribean Blue cardstock, DCS Aqua cardstock and DCS Blast off Blue cardstock.  Once I had all my strips (three of each color) I ripped each one before layering them on a circle.  At this point I decided to add white ink splatters to the cardstock circle.

Creating my Background

The DCS Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White cardstock was perfect to use for my background.  I used my Silhouette to cut a circle in the center of the page.  Then I trimmed each side of it down by one-quarter inch for the patterned paper that I wanted to use for this layout.  Once I laid the backed cut file on the cardstock, I decided some additional color was needed behind it to create more of a sun effect.  So I used distress oxide ink and my ink blending brushes to add the light yellow on the white cardstock.  Next, I used a stencil and distress ink to add more dimension to the yellow.

Finishing the Page

Now that my layers were all done, it was time to piece my layout together.  I added the cardstock layered circle to the center of the page. I used foam adhesive between the white layer and patterned paper to add some dimension.  At this point I added my sun cut file to outline the circle.  I added more foam adhesive behind my photo.  For the final touches, I used letter stickers to add my title to the bottom of the photo as well as the year in the bottom corner.  Next I then added some flat stickers and puffy stickers to match the blues on the different layers.
