“Almost” Monochromatic Scrapbook Layout

Howdy Fellow cardstock Lovers! And Happy Friday!
Misty here with you today sharing a new layout that I did following an “almost” monochromatic color scheme. Why do I say “Almost” Monochromatic? Well…it’s not quite 100% monochrome. I tried… I really did. However, those little pink flowers were just calling to me… “pick me….pick me!”… So I did. Despite my best efforts, I just couldn’t resist the splash of color.
With Winter in the rear view and a Blazing summer ahead, I decided to pull out some greens in celebration of the serenity of spring. While spring is very short lived in Texas, it is quite remarkable while it is in full swing. Most people associate Texas with Heatwaves and Humidity. While those are very accurate terms, they are leaving out one of the most prominent “H” work descriptions. Yes…Houston…but that is a given. I am referring to hummingbirds. We have them in abundance down here! One thing I have learned, is that the older you get, the more you appreciate the little things..including the tiny hummingbird.
With that in mind, I decided that I wanted to scrapbook some photos that I had taken of my Dad and Step Mom. They were sitting in their front yard on the swing, enjoying the pool breeze of the evening, watching the sun set, and listening to the hum of the hummingbirds flying around them. They were enjoying the Little things. The Moments that make life worth living.

To Begin…

To begin, I pulled a Stardream Metallic CRYSTAL White 12×12 for the cutfile that I used. I also pulled Stardream Metallic Fairway Green and Lessebo Hunter Green Cardstock to coordinate with the papers from 49&Market that I was going to use. In addition, I pulled several green elements that I thought I might want to use and had them handy “Just in Case”. I prepped another sheet of Stardream Metallic CRYSTAL White 12×12 with gesso so that I could splash some water color onto it and it would stay. With this part complete, I began the painting process.

Putting it all Together

Once the base cardstock had just the right amount of green, it was time to start finning in the segments of the circle cutfile. One by one, I filled each segment with paper, cardstock or sequins. I wanted to try to stay within a monochromatic color scheme, and so far, I was succeeding! The Stardream Metallic Fairway Green and Lessebo Hunter Green Cardstock were the perfect compliments to the greens in the 49&Market line that I was using! It was looking great! Then, at the very end, I caved. Once I saw those tiny pink flowers and it was over. I set them onto the layout…no glue…just tossed them on the top…and it looked SOOOO GOOD!
I just had to use them…I could not resist.

Once everything was assembled, I added just a few more finishing touches. Writing on the front of a layout is not something that I do often. I always journal, I just always make it hidden somewhere. I used the Stardream Metallic CRYSTAL White 12×12 to write down the things that I wanted to remember about this day and tucked it behind the photo. Always journal…Always. Your lie is YOUR story. TELL IT!!! Let your kids, grand kids, parents, friends…everyone know show you are and how you felt about them!

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope my little layout about my Daddy has inspired you. If so, lHead on one to CutCardStock Store and start stocking up. Remember…the Stardream Metallics are on sale right now! Don’t wait too long!
