Watercolor on Metallic Cardstock

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Stardream Metallic cardstocks! Today, I played around with some liquid watercolors on the Stardream Metallic Opal cardstock to make these beautiful flowers!

I started with a piece of the Stardream Metallic Opal cardstock, and used a wide brush to swipe some water onto the surface. You want it all glistening with water, but not have puddles of water.

The next step is to drop some liquid watercolors onto the wet cardstock. I started with green and a little yellow here to use for the leaves. The water that we put on the cardstock prior to dropping on the color helps the watercolor move around and mix.

To help the colors mix even more, I sprayed some water after I put on the colors. You can spray as little or as much as you want to get it to blend to your liking. I used quite a bit of water on this step because I wanted a nice soft blend of colors.

I used my magnets to help keep the paper flat as it was drying so that all of the color didn’t run off the sides.

I did use a heat tool to help speed along the drying process. This cardstock will take a bit longer to dry than using regular cardstock or watercolor paper.

I repeated those steps with some yellow and pink, and once they were dry look how pretty!!

Next was to cut out all my flower pieces and leaves.

I grouped the soft yellow and pink flowers together and the brighter pink and yellow together to make the layered flowers. I used liquid glue to adhere the layers and then put my magnets on top to keep them together while the glue dried.

I cut out a thin frame from the Bright Gold Foil cardstock and glued that down onto an A2 sized panel for the front of the card. I had splattered some pink and green onto the card panel to match the flowers and leaves. Once the flowers were glued down to the card, I gently folded up some of the petals to give the flowers dimension. Then, I added a sentiment and some gold sparkle gems to the center and flowers and this card is done!

I hope you have as much fun with the metallic cardstock and watercolor as I did with this project!
