I love punny cards, and this one is no exception! This card comes together pretty quickly, and it is so cute! This card type is called a fractured card because it looks like someone took the patterned paper background and fractured it! You need to use the same cardstock for the card base and .25″ strips to ensure this effect.
After making these cute watermelon pieces with my Cricut, I searched my patterned papers to find something that would coordinate.
The watermelon pieces were created with Bonsai Green, Hunter Green, Basis Red cardstock, and Black Licorice for the seeds. Using two shades of green for the rinds adds more interest and color to the card. White pen marks add some highlights to the pieces as well.
The card base and cardstock strips are Pewter, and Cougar Smooth White cardstock was used for the square middle piece.
To create this fractured card, adhere a 2.25″ square to a 4 x 5.25″ patterned paper piece. The square does not have to be centered. In fact, it gives more interest if it’s a little off center, but be sure to adhere as a diamond, not a square.
Once that is adhered, take one (you’ll have four altogether) of the .25″ strips and adhere to one side of the square shape. Continue doing that until all four sides have a strip.
Trim the edges and center and adhere the patterned paper to the card base.
Putting it all Together
Once you’ve done that, add your embellishments and sentiment to complete the card.
I added two watermelon slices to the card. The larger one was adhered directly to the card, and the smaller one was adhered using foam adhesive to jazz it up!
So cute and so fun! If you decide to recreate this fractured card, you may want to steer clear of any directional patterned papers. The patterned paper I chose can go in either direction and work well for this card type.
