Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Today is all about special moments with family and friends. Perhaps, after the leftovers have been packed away, you’re looking to start on some Christmas projects. If so, it’s the perfect time to create a Christmas countdown project! This idea incorporates some scrapbooking of favorite moments you’ve had with family and friends by documenting them and putting them on display.
I started by pulling 24 different photos from my digital albums that are special to me and adding them to a basic PowerPoint. Each photo was cropped and resized to a square – in my case, I will be using a 3″ square that fits with my polaroid die cut from my stash.
Next, I printed these pictures on a printer using Classic Crest Solar White, and cut them out with a paper trimmer. It’s a good idea to leave space in between each one, enough to make your cuts.
Now it’s time for choosing your color schemes. This was challenging for me! CutCardStock has so many beautiful choices, and then I also liked the look of a simple black and white too. But, ultimately I ended up with a really cheerful color scheme of DCS Bonsai Green, a turquoise (the one I chose is out of stock, but a similar color is Pop Tone Blue Raspberry) and DCS Amaranth Pink.
I’ve cut my colored paper in 3.25″ by 3.75″ pieces. With 3 colors, I needed 8 pieces of each color, and I used about 2 sheets of paper each. Save any remaining scraps for decorating later!
I’ve also cut 24 polaroid shapes in Classic Crest Solar White paper. A tip: if you don’t have a polaroid die cut, you can still cut this shape out if you have a square die cut! Simply cut a 3.5″ by 4″ piece of Solar White, then run it through a die cut machine, placing the square a third of the way down. Instant polaroid! (Pun intended, ha ha.)
On the back of each color block, I’m adhering both the polaroid and the photo. If you want to be able to change out the photos in years to come, glue the polaroid down on the sides and bottom only so you can slip the picture in through the top.
To decorate the front of the colored blocks, I’m using Mirrisparkle Glitter Silver to cut out scalloped circles. Inside those are numbers for each day (I used Hero Arts dies) cut with Classic Crest Solar White. You can do 24, or 12 days too if you prefer.
Now you will choose how you hang the photos – one idea is to take a wooden sign and hot glue clothespins to the front. Space these out so all the pictures will fit! Or, another easy idea that’s great for storage is to string up your pictures on a pretty ribbon or twine with clothespins, like mine.
If you are alternating colors, keep an eye on your patterns. Can you spot my “oops?” Ha! What special memories will you document this year? Would you try a project like this, and if so – what colors will you choose?
I’d love to hear from you below! Thanks for joining me and enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving holiday, CutCardStock friends!
