Hello! Jessica here with a 3D project using metallic cardstock! Cut Cardstock’s Stardream Metallic cardstocks are not only beautiful and shimmery, but also thick and luxurious! They are perfect for 3D projects. Today I am making a treat box with a cute little puppy on top.
I started off by using a die to cut the base of the box – we need to cut this twice to make a box. I used the Stardream Metallic Sapphire – isn’t it a gorgeous blue?! It is 105 lb. weight and perfect for the base of our box.
I wanted to cut a little window for the front of our box, so the recipient could get a sneak peek of what is inside. Make sure you do this prior to folding and assembling your box.
To add a little interest, I used some white paint to splatter onto the base pieces. I used a dog pee pad to cover my surface when I splatter, this is easier and more effective for my work space than using box (my desk is usually a huge mess, and a box won’t fit! But I can just cover everything with the pee pad lol).
I put my white paint on an acrylic block, add a little water, and then flick the paint off the edge onto my cardstock.
Once my splattering was all done, I set these pieces aside to dry while I worked on decorations for the box.
I have this cute little die and stamp set that makes a dog who can hug a panel or a gift card. I cut out the base part of the dog using Stardream Metallic Silver cardstock.
I also cut out the little pieces for details on the dog – the insides of the ear were cut from Stardream Metallic Rose Quartz and the rest from the Stardream Metallic Neptune.
I adhered the inner parts of the ear using liquid glue to attach it behind the dog so it shows through the ears. I also used the liquid glue to adhere the muzzle onto the puppy’s face. Before putting the nose on, I lined up the stamp that stamps out his eyes and mouth in my MISTI and stamped with archival black ink.
The Neptune color wasn’t quite dark enough for what I wanted for his little nose, so I used an alcohol marker to tint it darker. You can always use alcohol markers on the metallic cardstocks if you need to change the color a bit, and the shine still comes through!
OMG How cute is that little fella?!
When making 3D projects, always make sure to burnish the folded parts well using a bone folder.
Before assembling the box, I glue a piece of acetate on the inside of the box where the window is. This helps keeps everything in the box that you want to stay in it!
I prefer to use strong double sided tape when putting 3D projects together, I like it better than liquid glue because I don’t have to wait for it to dry and it is very strong. I used 1/4″ Scor Tape for this part of the project.
Once the box was assembled, I tucked in the little puppy and added some twine and a heart to the front closure. I hope you enjoyed this project today! This box can be used for any occasion and can hold fun little gifts and treats!
