Copic Coloring on Colored Cardstock

Do you ever cut dies out of colored cardstock and then add shading with Copic markers? That’s what I’ve done here with my favorite Pop-Tone cardstock. I used Red Hot, Gum Drop Green and Sweet Tooth. All three of which are on sale this month at CutCardStock. In addition to the shading, coloring the cardstock helped make the cardstock darker to fit the style of the card.

1. Die cut the mug, berries and candy cane from Red Hot Pop-Tone Cardstock. Cut the marshmallows, whipped cream, candy cane and mug insert from Sweet Tooth Pop-Tone Cardstock. Cut the holly leaves from Gum Drop Green Pop-Tone Cardstock.

2. Shade the die cuts with Copic markers. For the candy candy, I shaded both the red and white one. Then I cut the red one into pieces following the lines on the die cut. I added them to the white candy cane with liquid glue. Alternatively, you could just cut a white one and color every other section red.

3. Use the die cuts to get the placement correct for the sentiment. Stamp the sentiments with red ink on Premium Classic Crest A2 Folded Discount Card Stock. If I did this again, I would add a stamped heart under the sentiment.

4. Adhere the mug with thin foam squares. Adhere anything the overlaps the mug with liquid glue. If it overhangs, add a thin foam square. The candy cane is tucked into the whipped cream and any excess is cut off.

5. Add glossy accents to the marshmallows, berries and candy cane. Add shimmer pen to the mug and whipped cream.

6. Add shading under the mug to ground the image.

I love coloring with Copic markers but sometimes, it’s just not necessary to color on white cardstock when I’ll use much less ink by starting with colored cardstock.
