Shaker Treat Box

I know I’m not alone in saying that shaker cards are a lot of fun to make and to give. Today I have a little different twist on that by making a shaker treat box! It’s something different and just the right size for a couple fun size candy treats or other small gifts. It’s the perfect project for Sundance Royal Felt cardstock from CutCardStock!

I purchased the pattern for this unique box from the Silhouette Store. The link to it at the store is here. I made mine on my Cameo 4 but you can purchase this as an .svg file and use it on a Cricut or ScanNCut as well. I could find no instructions on how to make this box so I am including many more pictures than normal showing construction in the hope it helps those who try it out. I made a prototype before I made my finished project which would have been unnecessary with a few instructions.

The pattern allows an option to add digital designs to customize the box before being printed and then cut. I inserted paper patterns from a new digital set from Creative Memories called Hello Autumn. On top of the digital paper, I placed the pre-colored girl image from The Paper Shelter and sized her to fit in the middle of the shaker piece. Then I used the print-then-cut function to cut the pieces. I chose Royal Sundance Felt cardtock in Brilliant White for this project. Although it’s called felt, it doesn’t have a felt-like texture. It simply refers to cardstock that has a dimpled finish. It is 80 lb so is sturdy and it prints beautifully on my inkject printer! It has a dimpled texture and it looks like it was purchased with the patterns rather than printed. The cardstock prints with perfect coverage and has a really rich look.

The pattern cuts and also scores the pieces and also cuts out the acetate window. The shaker box piece is 1/4″ deep so it can handle large shaker bits which is a nice thing. I also appreciate that no foam is used in the piece. I don’t have anything against foam but it was just refreshing to see another idea on how to create a shaker well.

At this point I added my shaker bits and glued the acetate window on the top, using the folded ends as the support for the window.

Then I glued the shaker box into place before folding up the box. Although you could put the shaker in after the box was constructed, I think it was a lot easier to glue it in place before the rest of the box is put together.

It’s simple to fold. I glued the box tabs but I left the top and each side next to the very top unglued so it can be opened and shut easily. This is how it looks when closed. It is 3″ x 3″ and 1 1/4″ deep.

To decorate it, I used jewel bling strips in clear and champagne from Eyelet Outlet. It hid the little bits of white that showed around the window and the box and also gave it a bit more glam.

I next grabbed the smallest white paper flowers from Eyelet Outlet and colored two layers with golden orange Copic markers. I layered them with a white flower between and secured them with a sunflower from Eyelet Outlet. I colored another white flower with a green Copic marker and snipped the petals apart to make leaves. I also added a double bow at the top of the box.

I loved how my box turned out and I truthfully can’t stop shaking it. I intended to give this as a gift but as sometimes happens, I may need to keep this one!
