How to Make a 4th of July Sunburst Layout Using Cardstock

Today I’m going to show you how to make a patriotic layout in the sunburst pattern mainly using cardstock and just two sheets of pattern paper.

Toddler patriotic layout made using cardstock

This was a fun layout to make and it features my grandson on his very first 4th of July. I didn’t want too many pattern papers in this layout because I didn’t want to overpower the photo. So most of this sunburst layout was made from just cardstock.

The cardstock in this layout is from CutCardstock. I love the variety of their cardstock, and the quality is amazing. For this layout I used the following colors.

Basis Med Blue,

Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock

Pop Tone Wild Cherry Cardstock

These were all great colors and matched my pattern papers perfectly. For the detailed directions on measurements, cutting directions, and photos please see the post located here. Layout Cutting and Measurements.

After your patterns are glued into place it’s time to start adding the washi tape. You will notice that my washi tape doesn’t go fully to the center of my layout. I found that it makes that area too bulky if you apply the tape that far up into the center of the page.

Double-Sided Foam Strips are added to the back of the photo mat to help lift it off the page for more texture. This also helps to make it easier if you want to tuck things under the photo mat a little.

Next you will add your photo mat to your layout. Also added was a red flag die cut to the top right corner,

Placing additional pattern paper on my photo mat helped to make my small photo appear much larger on the patriotic cardstock layout.

Now it was time to start decorating this layout. The red, white, and blue flower, along with the patriotic puffy stickers were an easy choice for this layout.

The top flag looked a little lonely, so another flag was added along with more puffy stickers.

Finally, I was able to add a patriotic photo of my grandson. It’s been a long time since he was that tiny.
