Watercoloring on White Cardstock with Amy Hill

Hello friends, it’s Amy of Sevenscrafts, and thank you for joining me on the CutCardStock blog today to celebrate paper. I have a quick technique for jazzing up your white cardstock using watercolors.

Savoy 100% Cotton 118lb paper can take some water. In these two card projects today, I use color as a background and as the focal point of the image. Please leave a comment letting me know which card you liked best!

Card 1: Watercolor a Background

To create the background panel, I used a 1” flat brush to add some water to the panel. I then brushed on some color from an Altenew watercolor liquid brush marker just to the top of the panel. I then used my flat brush with some water on it to drag the color from the top to the bottom creating an ombre effect.

While the panel dried, I stamped some flowers and vines from Altenew Wallpaper flowers stamp set in a chocolate ink, cut them out and foam mounted them onto the watercolor panel.

The color from the background really intensifies the clean lines of these floral images. A pretty die cut circle, a bold sentiment, and some gems really finish off the panel.  I mounted the panel onto Neenah Desert Storm cardstock and then onto a top folding A2 card I cut and scored from a sheet of Neenah 110lb Classic Crest.

Card 2: Watercolor an Image

For the second card, I stamped a lily from Concord & 9th using a light ink. I then used the Altenew watercolor brush liquid markers to add some color. I then used a wet #4 round brush to pull the color throughout the image creating areas of highlight and shadow.

After the lily was dry, I cut out a mask, added it to the lily image and then used Hero Arts Floral Filigree stencil with Altenew Sea Glass ink brushed through part of the stencil. I then used a Micron 03 black pen to trace a rectangle around the lily. I then mounted the panel onto a panel that had been blended with Altenew Ocean Waves ink. These two panels were then mounted onto an A2 sized card made from Neenah Classic Crest 110lb paper.

Blending and coloring with watercolors is an easy way to create a lot of interest with little investment. For watercoloring, try the Savoy 100% Cotton paper. I hope these cards inspire you to take out your inks.
