Holiday Countdown Series: Water-coloring with Oxide Ink

For my project today, I’ll show you one of the ways I like to watercolor which is using Oxide inks on dark paper.

I started off with an A2 sized card I made using Basis Green card stock. This is a really nice traditional green – not too dark, not too light. I heat embossed a Christmas floral image I got from the most recent issue of Creative Stamping magazine using white embossing powder.

I love using watercolors with heat embossed images because it helps me stay in the lines, LOL!

I pressed some Festive Berries Oxide ink onto my Make Art Stay-tion and using a thin paintbrush and some water, I colored in my flowers.

It really is magical, the heat embossing resists any paint so it’s all neat and clean.

I added Picked Raspberry and Cracked Pistachio to some of the leaves and other flowers for more color and left the larger leaves plain. I love the rich, pigmented color that the Oxide ink provides.

I love adding a little shimmer, so I dabbed some Spectrum Noir clear shimmer pen over the leaves and flowers.

This is a really fun technique to try with any darker card stock. The colors pop so beautifully, you hardly need any other embellishment. Thanks so much for joining me today!
